Garri deserves more respect

I’m writing a truth most people will agree with today. I know how Garri has saved millions of lives across Nigeria and beyond, and it’s still saving lives in many places as I write to you today. As tasteless as it is, it has never refused the unalloyed help and support of sugar or milk with groundnuts or beans as supplements to make its life and that of its victim better.

It, however, prefers very cold water to make its existence desirable to all and to make its victim feel at some ease. When its victim takes it as such, I mean with very cold water, without the supplements, he doesn’t know whether to feel sad or happy but he experiences both feelings at the same time.

Some persons do not particularly like this product existing in “soaked form”, but it has never been the cause of their predicament. Has it? It has been a faithful servant, always at the beck and call of every seemingly poor person.

Just as Jesus Christ did on the cross, it gives its life freely to all, available at every home in Nigeria. It doesn’t complain nor fight back nor fail one day to serve those who truly, truly need its service.

Using it to make eba is some sort of luxury, it never wants to be identified as such. It wants to be soaked, thoroughly, and swelled a bit more to fully serve those who have it in small measure.

In spite of its huge service to humanity, particularly these days in Buhari’s hot era, some persons have, on many occasions, accused it of making their eyes grow dim or that it’s bad when too much of it is taken. Why? Did it beg them to take it or to be poor as to wanting it every time? Why must humans say something as unpleasant as such to its helper and life saver? But I understand, humans never appreciate whatever that’s common and always available.

Garri knows it’s common, and always available, but it has made it a vow, a pledge, an oath, and an unflinching commitment to be at the disposal of those who diligently seek it.

Let’s all take a moment today in the comment section to appreciate the ‘wonderful’ works that garri has done in many people’s lives. Even in your lives, you readers. Don’t be ungrateful!
